I don’t know what it is about these vintage phones but I absolutely love them!
To have the phones perfectly paired with a beautiful gossip bench is a must for any farmhouse.
They may not function anymore but who cares?!
They are beautiful to hang on your walls or decoration on your shelves and they bring character to any home.
I decided to set up a vintage phone and gossip bench in my living room for my farmhouse makeover and I’m so excited about how it all turned out!!

So I’ll get to the step by steps of how we made this little area.
We purchased the phone from a seller on Facebook Marketplace. I read the best article here about how to identity these wall phones.
We were pretty lucky because we got a great price and we were able to walk around their home to find more things that they had for sale. (they were antique collectors!)
The only thing missing on this phone are the batteries!
It has a pretty big dent on the condenser. We think that people were trying to get it to work so they banged on it.
That’s why I love antiques so much. I think that the history is so cool!
Anyway, back to the gossip bench.
When we purchased the bench it was old and the seat was ragged but it had good bones.
Here is a view under the bench. Not too bad and it was pretty sturdy.
The seat on the bench needed to be reupholstered so I took it off first thing.
Then I cleaned the bench up really good with soap and water and allowed it to dry before painting it.
I decided to use a chalk paint on it and then sand the edges to make it a little more rustic. You can find the exact paint I used here.
Now onto the cushion.
I couldn’t figure out what to use to reupholster it with.
Burlap would be cute and add to the farmhouse touch but that would be too itchy and get string everywhere.
Then I was thinking of fabric but I couldn’t find the right pattern that I wanted.
So I settled on what I had available at the house which was a canvas drop cloth.
Now I couldn’t stop there with my frugal ways!!
I couldn’t find any staples for my staple gun so, of course, I went for the hot glue gun to reupholster the cushion!
No one was going to sit in it so I figured, why not? This project needed to get done and that is what I had available.
Oh, and did I also mention that I have never reupholstered anything in my life!!
Anyhoo, I googled how to reupholster a cushion, watched it for 10 seconds and decided to just jump in and do it.
They make it look so easy!
Well, it wasn’t that easy but I got it done. I wrapped it up like a Christmas present!!
Hey, it worked. Don’t judge!! 😂
The top of the cushion needed something extra so out came my Silhouette Cameo! I wanted to stencil it so I made a pretty flourish stencil.
If you ever wanted a Silhouette Cameo for yourself, Amazon has them for an amazing price now! You can find them here.
Then I painted on top of the stencil with chalk paint. (It’s what I had at the time!)
I didn’t want the stencil too crisp. I just dabbed it onto the cushion so it would have the light and dark spots.
The cushion was put back onto the bench, I added a doily and another vintage phone that I recently picked up at a flea market and that was it!
The bench is not as big as other gossip benches that I’ve seen but it’s perfect for my little corner.
Here is the little sitting area after the signs were made and everything was done.
