I’m sitting here on a Saturday morning thinking of what I can write for my blog.
l can’t stop thinking that we need a business plan and a mission statement to fully understand how to grow this little business.
When we first started, all we had was a sawmill and a plan to cut lumber for customers. But then we went to Germany and all of that changed. We saw the mile-long flea market that they have every Saturday morning. From then on decided that we wanted to travel and explore them around our area. So that is what we did when we returned.
During our travels, we made a decision that we had the know-how and the equipment to transform and refurbish these pieces to make beautiful décor for the home. I also thought that starting a business where we could travel and gather vintage items to restore would be a terrific business plan for when I retire in 9 years. I purchased a Silhouette Cameo and we started refurbishing pieces and I included some stencil to give the pieces a little extra.
However, I discovered in the meantime that I could customize anything with my little Cameo and we started selling things that we made. I was having so much fun…until I wasn’t.
We no longer had the time to travel to different flea markets to find items. We both work full time and the weekends were consumed with making custom orders. Don’t get me wrong, I was grateful for the business and the extra income it provided; however, we knew that we were veering away from our main goal.
Therefore, I will no longer be making any custom orders. We are going to stick to our original plan and make or restore vintage items to resell. This also includes barn wood that we can restore and stencil. I hope everyone understands and continues to support our little business. Keep watching our Facebook page and web site for new and different items.
Thank you all so much!!!
